The difference between knit and crochet

How would you explain tit to someone who doesn't knit or crochet?

My husband wanted to learn the difference and we have spent a lot of time laughing while explaining the elementary differences. He doesn't seem to understand. I might be sending him this link and talking to him again :)

How would you explain the difference? What is the main characteristic of knit/crochet?

Working with one hand / both hands, keeping the loops on needles or picking them up?

So that the problem is even bigger I have introduced my husband the afghan crochet which us a kind of a mixture of knit and crochet :)

Can you help me describe the differences? How do you feel them? I know - he needs to try. He will in a couple of years when our boys go to school :)
